EU sanctions led to a drop in revenue from furniture exports to 29.5 billion rubles by the end of the year. Furniture from EU countries - Italy, Germany, Spain and Romania - was imported to the country for the same amount.

According to Kommersant, referring to the indicators of the Association of Furniture and Wood Processing Industry Enterprises, in 2021 the Russian Federation supplied about 16% of all furniture produced abroad, now the indicator has halved. Furniture makers lost almost 18 billion rubles,

Imports collapsed by 44% to 103.4 billion rubles, and the share of European goods in this category, for which Moscow did not impose retaliatory sanctions, decreased from 50% to 30%. The share of Chinese and Belarusian furniture supplied to Russia increased to 70% in 2022.

Experts see the impact on the statistics of total export revenue negatively affected by the curtailment of the Russian business of Swedish IKEA, which supplied abroad a significant part of the finished products produced in Russia. But the main reason is the EU sanctions that have closed the European market for Russian furniture companies.

Last summer, it was reported about the growth of furniture production in the country. According to the Roslesinforg report, the largest increase was noted in the production of kitchen furniture — up to 25.8 billion rubles (+24.5%).
