From March 1, drivers will be checked for intoxication without witnesses

On March 1, 2023, new rules for the examination of alcohol intoxication of drivers come into force. Now, if a drunk driver is suspected of being drunk, it will be possible to check him for alcohol consumption without involving witnesses in the process, however, when recording on video. It is specified that the reason for the check may be the smell, instability of the body, speech disorder, discoloration of the skin of the face or behavior inappropriate to the situation.

Previously, the ability to conduct an examination without witnesses was prescribed in the Administrative Code, but now it has appeared in the norms. It is carried out using approved type measuring instruments that record the results on paper. The fact of the use of intoxicating substances is determined by the presence of absolute ethyl alcohol in a concentration exceeding the possible total measurement error - 0.16 milligrams per liter of exhaled air.

At the beginning of the month it became known that motorists will be deprived of their rights for taking psychotropic and nootropic substances. The list of drugs prohibited for drivers will include phenibut, phenazepam, gabapentin and other medications that may affect the behavior of the driver, but there is currently no administrative responsibility for taking them.
