On February 23, the Turkish authorities released new statistics, according to which the number of victims of the disaster increased by a thousand.

Earlier it was reported about 42.3 thousand victims.

On February 6 and 20, a series of devastating earthquakes with a magnitude of up to 7.8 occurred in Turkey and Syria. In Turkey, about 42 thousand buildings were destroyed, hundreds of thousands of people were left homeless. Only the city of Erzin, on the territory of which Mayor Okkesh Elmasoglu did not allow anyone, even his relatives, to build a single building without a license. During the tremors, not a single house in the city collapsed and not a single person out of 42 living there died.

To date, Turkish authorities have arrested more than 340 people on charges of violating building construction rules or looting.
