The authorities have closed the airspace over St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region on an area of 200 sq. km. The "Carpet" plan has been introduced. Pulkovo Airport has stopped accepting planes.

According to the telegram channel "Base" with reference to the data of the Flightradar24 service, civil aircraft have been transferred to the waiting area. They are circling around a closed area. Tens of thousands of users monitor the movement of aircraft.

As Kommersant notes, flights from Moscow to St. Petersburg make circles or return back.

According to media reports, the reason for the closure of the sky for civilian aircraft was the Carpet plan introduced in this zone. It is declared when crossing the border illegally or when unidentified objects appear in the airspace.

When announcing this plan, civilian vessels must immediately board or leave the area. Military aircraft are involved in the search for the violator.

Previously, such a plan was introduced in the Leningrad Region in mid-February in connection with the alleged drone attack on an oil depot in Tuapse and on the city of Belgorod.
