"The Russian flag was found painted on the base of a statue of the Little Mermaid in Denmark on Thursday, which, according to police, is a "case of vandalism" at Copenhagen's most famous landmark and a popular tourist attraction", - the Reuters article says (quoted by RIA Novosti).
It is noted that the front part of the stone on which the monument to the Little Mermaid, the heroine of one of the most famous fairy tales by Hans Christian Andersen, is painted. At the moment, it is unknown who painted the pedestal in the colors of the Russian flag.
According to TASS, the incident became known on Thursday morning, and the journalists of the local newspaper Ekstra Bladet already at 07:00 (09:00 Moscow time) took the first photo from the spot. The police told the publication that the relevant reports were not received by law enforcement agencies.
In 1913, the statue of the Little Mermaid was donated to the city by the brewer Karl Jacobsen, the son of the founder of the Carlsberg company. The author of the statue was the Danish sculptor Edward Eriksen, and his wife Eline became the model for the sculpture. The statue of the Little Mermaid is one of the symbols of the city.
