She stated this at a rally in connection with the 31st anniversary of the beginning of the armed conflict on the Dniester.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu said that the government of the country will not allow a new conflict in Transnistria.

"We will continue to make efforts to preserve peace in the country in order to prevent the aggravation of the situation around the Transnistrian region. We will not allow hotheads to turn Transnistria into the arena of a new military conflict", - the Moldovan leader said.

She also stated that "31 years after the beginning of the conflict, the memory of the fallen on the Dniester is not forgotten... We cannot forget the price paid by society for Moldova to continue its path to independence, freedom and peace".

According to Sandu, Moldova "did not want war then and does not want it now".

Recall that the armed conflict began on March 2, 1992 after a skirmish between Transnistrian policemen and Moldovan policemen in the city of Dubossary. The conflict lasted for months, the peak was in June. The fighting stopped after the signing on July 21 by the Presidents of Moldova and the Russian Federation of an agreement on the principles of a mine settlement of the Transnistrian conflict. In the security zone created on the banks of the Dniester, there are peacekeeping forces - 300-400 soldiers from Russia, Moldova and Transnistria.

On February 21 of this year, Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Rechan said that Russia had to withdraw its military from Pridnestrovie by 2001, but has not yet done so. At the same time, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russian troops are in Transnistria is legal.

Then the ex-adviser of the Office of the President of Ukraine Alexey Arestovich said that if Moldova receives a request, Ukraine can seize Transnistria in three days.

Chisinau sees no direct threats to the security of the state on the border with Ukraine. This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Defense of Moldova.
