Norilsk Nickel announced the election of a number of independent directors as the heads of the SD committees.

Denis Alexandrov was elected Chairman of the Strategy Committee, the Corporate Governance and Human Resources Committee was headed by Alexey Germanovich, and the acting head of the Budget Committee of the SD was Egor Sheibak. The candidacy of the latter was proposed by the CEO of Interros and a member of the Board of Directors of Norilsk Nickel, Sergey Batekhin, before that he himself held this position, but offered to resign. And it was Batekhin, according to a source of the Kommersant newspaper, who initiated the election of independent directors.

Rusal insisted on the re-election of Andrey Bugrov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Norilsk Nickel. The company, according to Kommersant sources, proposed the candidacy of Yevgeny Schwartz, who, however, would not be an independent party, since last year he took the post of non-executive director of Rusal's SD on environmental issues.

Independent Director Gareth Penny has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Norilsk Nickel for nine years, since March 2013. Last March, Penny resigned. Andrey Bugrov, who held the position of Senior Vice President of the company for Sustainable Development, was elected head of the council.

According to experts, increasing the importance of independent directors will help to raise the company's management to a new level on the basis of Russian legislation and world best practices.
