On March 6, the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) suspended the president of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics (VFHG) and the head coach of the Russian national team Irina Viner for a two-year term.
The trial is connected with the withdrawal of the candidacy of a Russian woman Natalia Kuzmina from the elections to the FIG Technical committee for Rhythmic gymnastics in 2021, Viner's public statements in the media following the results of the Russian national rhythmic gymnastics team at the OI in Tokyo, recognized as "offensive" and violating the rules of the federation.
Recall that for the first time since 1996, Russian gymnasts were left without "Gold" at the 2020 Games. In the individual all-around, the representative of Israel Lina Ashram won, despite the fact that she dropped the ribbon in the last performance. A number of countries have filed protests. The technical committee, headed by Kuzmina, did not reveal the bias of the judges. Viner said afterwards that the VFHG had removed Kuzmina from the election and would prepare a "normal" candidate.
It's worth reminding that at the end of February, Viner announced that Russian gymnasts will not take part in the Grand Prix series stage, which will be held in Kiev on March 14-15.
