Initially, the draft EU proposal assumed the allocation of 1 billion euros for the purchase of ammunition for Ukraine. Before the start of the informal meeting of EU defense ministers, Reznikov said that this would not be enough to cover the needs of the Armed Forces, which need urgent supplies of shells.
"We need one million shells, and it will cost about €4 billion. We need even more", - Reznikov said (quoted by RBC).
According to him, Kiev first of all needs air defense systems and a million shells for 155-mm artillery, Ukrinform clarifies.
During the meeting, Borrel proposed to allocate 1 billion euros for the immediate supply of ammunition from the stocks of EU countries and spend the same amount on the joint purchase of additional shells. It is planned to finance the supplies from the European Peace Fund, whose budget was recently increased by 2 billion euros.
