In Russia, the release of biometric passports has been resumed

According to Izvestia, referring to Goznak, the issuance of biometric passports has resumed and is being conducted in standard mode. But due to the fact that a lot of applications for registration of this document have accumulated during the waiting time, the issuance time may increase. The increase in demand led to the fact that the manufacturer of microchips for foreign passports, JSC "Micron", was forced to optimize technological processes. New applications will be accepted in the second half of March this year.

It should be noted that in the documents of the new sample there is a unique chip containing information about the owner, as well as scans of his fingerprints. The validity period of the document is ten years.

Last year, the number of foreign passports issued by citizens reached 5.4 million, which is almost 40% more than in 2021. In 2021, Russian citizens issued 3.8 million foreign passports.
