The authorities of Saudi Arabia and Iran signed an agreement on the resumption of diplomatic relations following the talks in Beijing. The mutual opening of embassies should take place within the next two months.

This is reported by Kommersant with reference to the data of the Tasnim agency.

Negotiations between Iranian diplomats and Saudi Arabia in Beijing continued from March 6. By March 10, the parties managed to come to an agreement and sign the relevant documents.

On the Iranian side, the Secretary of the National Security Council Ali Shahmani participated in the negotiations, and with Saudi Arabia's side — National Security Adviser Musad Al Ayban. The parties thanked Iraq, Oman and The PRC is grateful for assistance in the negotiation process, which has been going on for the past three years.

Iran and Saudi Arabia declared its readiness to implement the agreement on security cooperation of April 17, 2001, and the agreement on economic, trade, investment, technical, scientific, cultural and sports cooperation of May 27, 1998.

Diplomatic relations between the countries were violated on January 3, 2016. The reason was the arson of the Saudi Embassy building in Tehran by protesters. The protest was a reaction of Iranian residents to the execution of Shiite preacher Nimr al-Nimr in Saudi Arabia.
