Russian Foreign Ministry: Moscow will not be against the extension of the "grain deal" for 60 days

13 марта 2023, 16:59
The further position will be determined depending on the real progress on the normalization of Russian agricultural exports, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

Earlier today, it was reported about the start of consultations in Geneva on the extension of the grain deal, which expires on March 18.

"The Russian side, noting the "package" nature of the Istanbul agreements proposed by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, does not object to another extension of the Black Sea Initiative after the expiration of the second term on March 18, but only for 60 days", - the Russian interdepartmental delegation said in a statement distributed following consultations with UN representatives in Geneva.

A number of conditions for further extension include normalization of Russian agricultural exports, including bank payments, transport logistics, insurance, "defrosting" of financial activities and ammonia supplies via the Togliatti-Odessa pipeline.

It's worth reminding that on July 22 last year, two documents were signed in Sambula: on the creation of a corridor for the export of grain from three Ukrainian ports (Chernomorsk, Odessa and Yuzhny), as well as on the removal of barriers to the export of Russian food and fertilizers. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan intends to hold a meeting of Russian and Ukrainian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Vladimir Zelensky in April. This was told by a member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council under the President of Turkey, Chagry Erhan.
