The decision has already been made by the head of the German Defense Ministry, Boris Pistorius.

According to Bild, citing a source in government circles, Bundeswehr Inspector General Eberhard Zorn (pictured) will be dismissed. The publication indicates that the post will go to Major General Carsten Breuer.

Journalists cite Zorn's interview for the magazine Fokus from September last year. In an interview with a correspondent, the officer doubted that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are able to effectively resist the Russian army. The military reported that ALL actions will be "counterattacks that can win back territories or individual sections of the front, but not push Russia back on a broad front". Russia may open a second front in Moldova, near Kaliningrad, on the border with Finland or in Georgia, Zorn believes. This position was criticized by the ex-commander of the American army in Europe, Ben Hodges. In his opinion, the officer's words are "a bad analysis of Russian capabilities".

It's worth reminding that Zorn has been commanding the German Air Force since 2018. Probably, on Thursday, March 16, he will be prematurely dismissed. According to Spiegel, Pistorius informed Zorn of his decision on March 13.

Breuer, who is to replace Zorn as the department's inspector general, previously headed the government's COVID-19 pandemic response team. He currently heads the territorial command of the Bundeswehr. After the new appointment, he will also become the chief military adviser to Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
