On Thursday, 52-year-old Gianni Infantino was re-elected as president of the International Football Federation at the FIFA Congress in the capital of Rwanda, Kigali.

Al Jazeera recalled that Infantino's predecessor was Joseph Blatter, who resigned in 2016 after numerous corruption scandals in FIFA. This time in Kigali, despite the fact that Infantino was the only candidate in the elections, he was elected without a vote on the basis of the rules of the International Federation.

Nevertheless, several European countries, including Germany, Norway and Sweden, have not been happy with Gianni Infantino's presidency for the past four years and have stated that they are not going to actively support his candidacy. But as a result, no one opposed it at the congress itself.

"Let me just thank you all", - the FIFA head said after his candidacy was approved, - There are many of you who respect me, and those few who hate me. I love you all!"

On the occasion of his re-election, Infantino announced FIFA's projected revenue of $11 billion. in the four years to 2026, compared to $7.5 billion. in the last four-year cycle ending in 2022.

A delegation of the Russian Football Union headed by the RFU Secretary General Maxim Mitrofanov took part in the congress in Kigali.
