According to RIA Novosti, Bashar al-Assad indicated that official Damascus recognizes the borders of Russia with the annexed territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics, Kherson and Zaporozhye regions. Assad stressed that these are "historical borders of Russia" that were "transferred to Ukraine, perhaps about a hundred years ago".
"Russian citizens live on them, and the facts on the ground indicate that this is Russian land. We are convinced of this position", - Assad added.
It's worth reminding that the Syrian president flew to Moscow on March 14 and met with his Russian counterpart the next day. Vladimir Putin assured him that Russia remains a true friend of Syria, and relations between the two countries are continuously developing. Assad also stressed that Syria supports the Russian special operation in Ukraine. Bashar al-Assad expressed confidence that a new stage of relations between the two countries is now coming, and this will bring real results.
