Alexey Logvinenko, the head of the Rostov-on-Don administration, went to the scene of the incident. The city authorities assured that there is no threat to residents of apartment buildings located nearby. At the same time, a TASS correspondent reports that residents of nearby houses were evacuated.
"Residents of the house on Sieversa, 26, as well as residents of the student dormitory of the Customs Academy on Sieversa, 24, were evacuated," a law enforcement official told TASS.
Earlier, the media called the alleged cause of the fire a short circuit in a fuel warehouse located on the second floor, which caused the wiring to ignite, after which the flame spread to fuel tanks. The same version was voiced by the governor of the Rostov region Vasily Golubev.
The fire area is 880 sq. m. The fire has been assigned an increased complexity rank. 112 firefighters and 33 pieces of equipment are involved in its extinguishing.
