UN: drug dealers have increased cocaine production by a third in a year

Compared to 2020, the area of land used for coca cultivation increased by 40% in 2021, to 204 thousand hectares, and the production of the main ingredient for cocaine increased by 35%.

Thus, the production of this type of drug in 2021 exceeded the dopandame level.

The researchers note that there has not been such an increase in cocaine production since 2016.

According to Kommersant, in 2020, cocaine turnover in the world decreased due to the fact that many countries announced lockdowns, including those related to the closure of borders. This disrupted the usual ways of drug delivery to consumers.

During the forced pause, Colombian drug cartels, which are the main suppliers of cocaine, have improved the methods of production and transportation of the banned substance.

In 2021, anti-drug units seized a record 2,000 tons of cocaine. The drug was hidden in squid, lots of avocados, in medical masks. The main consumers of the potion remain the EU and North America. They account for 75% of all deliveries. However, drug traffickers are also developing South American markets, as well as reaching consumers in Asia and Africa.
