In 2022, due to the imposition of sanctions and reduced access to international markets, the volume of cargo transportation carried out by Russian airlines decreased by 59.42%.

Compared with the data of 2021, over the past year, Russian airlines transported 599.05 thousand tons of cargo, including mail. This is almost 60% less, Kommersant reports, citing data from the Federal Air Transport Agency.

Under the conditions of sanctions on the volume of cargo transportation, Russian aviation was thrown back more than 20 years ago, to the indicators of 2001, when airlines transported only 614 thousand tons of cargo.

At the same time, passenger air transportation also decreased by 14.21% in 2022 — to 95.21 million people.

Previously, the share of international flights in the work of Russian aviators reached 77%. But due to the imposition of sanctions and the arrest of Russian aircraft abroad, some large cargo airlines of the Russian Federation were forced to stop working altogether. In particular, this happened with AirBridgeCargo, SkyGates and Atran: their aircraft have not yet resumed flights.

The state allocated 172 billion rubles in 2022 to support civil aviation.

In the conditions of reduced flights while maintaining the costs of air transportation in the country has significantly risen in price, the rate of price growth has broken a 14-year record.
