In Israel, amid protests, the first part of the judicial reform was approved

The draft law on changing the composition of the commission on the appointment of judges was approved by the Knesset (Parliament) Committee on the Constitution, Legislation and Justice in the second and third readings.

Meanwhile, Israeli President Yitzhak Herzog addressed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and called for a halt to judicial reform. The day before, Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Yoav Galant, who issued a statement in favor of suspending judicial reform. The Prime Minister is confident that the reform will create a balance in the system of distribution of powers between the branches of government, eliminating the current preponderance in favor of the judicial system.

The President also emphasizes that the reform that has caused mass protests throughout the country threatens the security and economy of Israel.
