"From today, initiative groups will work in the districts of the city [Volgograd] to study public opinion. Today we still have one district - Dzerzhinsky. Groups will work in three districts tomorrow. And so on until the end of the week", - Strukov said in an interview with TASS.
The interlocutor of the agency clarified that according to the results of the population survey, a decision will be made by next week on the need for a referendum on renaming the city to Stalingrad. He also clarified that the study of public opinion on this issue will be carried out at meetings with public organizations. A meeting is scheduled for Monday, which will be attended by more than 100 people.
As the agency notes, earlier Volgograd veterans made a proposal to return the historical name to the hero city. In this regard, the governor of the region Andrey Bocharov has created a public council for preliminary study of public opinion on the renaming of Volgograd to Stalingrad. In a February All-Russia Public Opinion Research Center (VTsIOM) poll, 67% of the population rather did not support this initiative.
