Deputies in Sumy refused to change the "Russian" street names

The petition was not supported by the city council.

According to the local newspaper "Public", the deputies of the Sumy City Council did not support the petition to rename streets, including those whose names are associated with Russia.

"At the session of the Sumy City Council on March 29, deputies did not support the petition of Maxim Kornienko of Sumy about renaming streets. 16 deputies voted for the petition, 22 votes are needed to make a decision", - the message says.

In total, it was planned to change the names of 13 streets. In particular, we are talking about a street dedicated to scientist Dmitry Mendeleev, as well as twice Hero of the Soviet Union, one of the organizers of the partisan movement in Ukraine Sidor Kovpak, as well as an ace pilot, three times Hero of the Soviet Union Marshal of Aviation Ivan Kozhedub, artist Ivan Aivazovsky, surgeon Nikolai Pirogov.

Earlier today it became known that the majority of Volgograd residents did not support the idea of changing the name of the city to Stalingrad. According to a survey conducted by the All-Russian Public Opinion Research Center in February, the majority of Volgograd residents also did not support the idea of renaming.
