"The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has suppressed the illegal activities of the correspondent of the Moscow bureau of the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, a US citizen Hershkovich Evan, born in 1991, who is suspected of espionage in the interests of the American government, accredited to the Russian Foreign Ministry", - the FSB Central Intelligence Service reports (quoted by TASS).

According to the special service, it was established that Gershkovich acted on the instructions of the American side, collected information representing state secrets, and was detained while trying to obtain it. In particular, he collected information about the work of one of the enterprises of the Russian military-industrial complex.

The FSB added that a criminal case was opened against the American under Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — Espionage.

According to the Telegram channel Ural Mash, in Yekaterinburg, a journalist was preparing a material about the attitude of Russians to the Wagner PMCs, for which he interviewed local activists.
