Several neighborhoods in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky were disconnected from electricity due to a powerful earthquake that occurred on the peninsula on April 3, Kamchatskenergo reported.
"As a result of a strong earthquake, turbogenerator No. 2 was turned off at Mutnovskaya GEOES1 for vibration protection, and therefore there was a power shortage of 12 MW", - the report says.
According to the Kamchatka branch of the Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the magnitude of the earthquake was 6.9. It was increased from the previously announced 5.7. The distance from the regional center is 48 km. The hearth lay at a depth of 99.5 km . The townspeople told about the shaking walls in the houses. Some residents left their apartments, fearing the collapse of buildings. Damage is reported in some buildings - in office centers and in a teacher training college. There is no information about the victims.
The threat of a tsunami in Kamchatka has not been announced.
