Russia became the chairman of the UN Security Council for a month

On April 1, Russia became the Chairman of the United Nations Security Council. The key topics for discussion during this period will be "effective multilateralism", risks in arms exports, and the Middle East settlement. There are no official meetings on Ukraine scheduled for April. However, it is likely that they will still occur.

"A number of events will be held within the framework of the April mandate-reporting cycle of the Security Council. In particular, a quarterly open debate at the ministerial level on the Middle East settlement is scheduled for April 25, which will be chaired by Lavrov", - Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.

She clarified that the Russian side "proceeds from the need to once again emphasize the need for a long-term and fair settlement of the region's long-standing problems on a well-known international legal basis".

Moscow is going to hold an informal meeting of the members of the Council on the "Arria formula" on the topic of evacuation of minors from the SVO zone. The situation in Syria, Yemen, Libya, Mali and the Great Lakes Region, Haiti and Colombia will also be on the agenda, as will the Western Sahara settlement.
