The leaders of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CSU) of Germany said they would seek a parliamentary investigation into Chancellor Scholz, who allegedly helped Warburg Bank avoid paying taxes in the amount of €47 million.

According to the Associated Press, this long-standing story has become a constant irritant for Chancellor Scholz. Suffice it to say that an investigation has already been launched in the legislative assembly of the city of Hamburg, where Scholz was mayor from 2011 to 2018. But this almost came to naught, because he moved to Berlin, where he took up the post of Federal Minister of Finance, and then Chancellor of Germany.

Today, the irrepressible opposition has gone on the offensive again. The center-right Union Bloc said it would appeal to the national Parliament to create a commission of inquiry immediately after the Easter holidays, in mid-April.

Testifying in his native Hamburg last August, Scholz denied his involvement in the scam. He only said that "there was no political interference in the affairs of Warburg Bank at all." Nevertheless, it is known that shortly after a series of meetings with bankers, Hamburg officials unexpectedly abandoned their previous demands for Warburg to pay €47 million.

"There are a lot of questions in this case, there are inconsistencies and contradictions", - Matthias Hauer, a member of the Bundestag finance Committee, commented. According to him, it is necessary to create a commission of inquiry, because previous attempts at the federal level to obtain information from Chancellor Scholz were ignored or rejected.
