The head of the Human Rights Council under the President of the Russian Federation, Valery Fadeyev, said about the politicization of Wikipedia, a lot of political and historical distortions. In his opinion, it is necessary to develop an alternative and close the resource.

"My opinion about Wikipedia is that it should be closed, but it is also convenient in some aspects ... it is very convenient for obtaining references, there are a lot of distortions, to put it mildly, when it comes to politics, history, but simple things are convenient, there is no alternative… We need to create an alternative as soon as possible and close Wikipedia - this is my position", - Fadeyev voiced his opinion at a press conference (quoted by RIA Novosti).

The press conference of the head of the HRC is timed to the International Internet Day and was held at the International Multimedia Press Center of the media group "Russia Today".

Fadeyev clarified that he is not calling for the closure of Wikipedia tomorrow. In his opinion, this is the direction in which you need to work. He argued his position by the fact that Wikipedia is a politicized and ideological product.
