According to The New York Times, more than 100 documents have been published in total. They reflect the US policy "from Ukraine to the Middle East". Confidential briefing slides about China, the Indo-Pacific Theater of Operations, the Middle East, terrorists and terrorism are also presented on the Internet.
Top-secret documents leaked to the Internet show that American intelligence is well informed about Russian military planning in Ukraine and that the United States can warn the AFU command about future Russian operations. Therefore, the US administration fears that after the "revelations" Moscow will be able to figure out through which channels the CIA collects information about the plans of the Russian military and find "American spies in the Kremlin".
The leak, whose source in the United States, by the way, remains unknown, also reveals the American assessment of the Ukrainian military, who are in a "difficult situation." In particular, the AFU feels a constant shortage of ammunition to maintain air defense.
In addition, it became known from the published secret files that the United States was spying on the top military and political leaders of Ukraine. It turns out that the White House does not fully trust Vladimir Zelensky's entourage and wants to get a "clearer idea of Kiev's combat strategy."
The documents may also harm diplomatic relations with partners in Asia, the NYT notes. The released documents clearly show that the United States is spying not only on Russia and Ukraine, but, for example, on the leaders of South Korea.
Meanwhile, The New York Times writes, Ukrainian officials continue to insist that the secret documents leaked to the Internet were artfully "altered or forged at the Lubyanka." In his Telegram statement, advisor to the Ukrainian president Mikhail Podolyak stressed that the leaks were intended to "sow distrust between Ukraine's partners."
Mike Gallagher, a Republican from Wisconsin, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, said that he expects from officials of the administration of President Joe Biden a full report on how such classified information could have leaked online. In Congress, lawmakers have already put this issue on their agenda.
"It looks like a huge problem faced by American counterintelligence. We shouldn't leave it like this. Another "puncture" of the Biden team could cause irreparable damage to US national security and the efforts of the CIA in Europe and around the world," Mike Gallagher warned.
On Sunday, the White House announced that the FBI had launched an investigation.
