Every fifth adult citizen of the United States was threatened with a weapon, the KFF survey showed

More than 20% of adult residents of the United States or one in five Americans have ever been threatened with a pistol or a submachine gun. This was told by the participants of a survey conducted by the American non-profit research organization Kaiser Family Foundation (KFF).

As reported by NBC News, 19% of respondents admitted that they once had a close relative who was shot with a gun. More than 17% of respondents said that they personally witnessed someone being shot. This year, according to the so-called "Archive of Violence", there have been at least 145 mass shootings with firearms in the United States.

During the first 24 days of 2023, at least 39 armed attacks with mass loss of life occurred in the country. At the same time, according to sociologists, African Americans and representatives of colored minorities predominate among the killers.

A third of black and Hispanic Americans are constantly, every day concerned that someone in their family may become a victim of gun violence.

As it turned out, about 29% of Americans purchased weapons to protect themselves and their family. At the same time, 75% of respondents showed that they store the gun in a loaded state with the silt on the fuse.
