The portals Delfi and LETA report that the Latvian Ministry of Defense has confirmed the dispatch of its military to Ukraine to perform "auxiliary functions", including the protection of the Latvian embassy in Kiev and the protection of cargo. As the representative of the department clarified, the Latvian military did not participate in hostilities on the territory of Ukraine.
Earlier, some media reported that the member countries of the North Atlantic Alliance sent their military to Ukraine, including 17 Latvian military were mentioned, but their whereabouts were not disclosed in the leaked documents from the Pentagon.
In February of this year, it was reported that Kiev announced the beginning of the formation of the first Polish special forces under the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. It was assumed that the Poles would perform reconnaissance and sabotage tasks. The most experienced soldiers, including volunteers who fought against Russia, will be sent to the elite unit. At the same time it became known that a German unit was being formed.
