Unknown attackers in Chechnya attacked lawyer Alexander Nemov and a journalist of Novaya Gazeta* Elena Milashina: the last one was shaved bald and her fingers were broken.

According to RBC with reference to the Memorial human rights center**, an attack on a lawyer and a journalist in Chechnya was carried out by armed men. The car in which Nemov and Milashina were traveling from the airport was blocked by the raiders on the road.

They kicked the journalist and the lawyer, took away and destroyed the equipment they had with them. The raiders demanded that the lawyer and the journalist leave Chechnya immediately. Malefactors brutally beat Elena Milashina, causing bruises all over her body, then shaved her head, broke her fingers on her hands and doused her with green paint.

According to human rights activists, both victims were hospitalized in the emergency hospital of Grozny. According to the telegram channel «Baza», Nemov probably received a knife wound in the leg. He can hardly speak and can hardly move. Milashina's condition is severe, she periodically loses consciousness. Experts note that without special transport, it cannot be transported to another place in this condition.

On the morning of July 4, Alexander Nemov and Elena Milashina flew to Grozny to participate in the court hearing in the case of Zarema Musayeva, the wife of the former judge of the Supreme Court of Chechnya Saidi Yangulbayev (pictured).

Musayeva, who was abducted by Chechen security forces from her apartment in Nizhny Novgorod in January 2022, was charged with allegedly attacking one of the kidnappers. She is expected to be sentenced on July 4. All this time, Musayeva, who suffers from an insulin-dependent form of diabetes, has been imprisoned in Chechnya.
