The temperature of the Black Sea in Gelendzhik, Anapa and Sochi reached abnormally high values for mid-July, reaching 25 degrees. This causes a forecast for a long velvet season this year, reports TASS with reference to the scientific director of the Hydrometeorological Center of Russia Roman Vilfand.
Usually such temperatures are climatically characteristic only for the first decade of August. However, in addition to the long velvet season, an increase in water surface temperature also increases the likelihood of tornadoes in the early period.
«The higher the water surface temperature, the greater the likelihood of such complex phenomena. So far, they continue for 10-30 seconds and do not reach the shore. However, meteorologists are monitoring the situation very closely», — Roman Vilfand said.
The meteorologist added that this year the velvet season is expected to be unusually long in the Black Sea resorts of Russia.
Meanwhile in A real catastrophe unfolded in the Krasnodar Territory. Due to bad weather and numerous flooding on July 10, a storm warning was announced in the vicinity of Tuapse and an emergency mode was introduced. In the Tuapse district of Krasnodar Krai, the number of flood victims has increased to four.
