The North Crimean Canal is no longer filled with water

The head of the Melitopol district of the Zaporozhye region, Andrei Siguta, said that water no longer enters the North Crimean Canal from Kakhovsky reservoir. Currently, the water level is one meter below the fence level. He reported this information on July 20.

The Kakhovka reservoir has now almost completely dried up on the territory of the Zaporozhye region, and some water remains only in part of the reservoir in the Kherson region, where the mouth of the North Crimean Canal is located. The Dnieper and Konka rivers returned to their former channels.

Acting Governor of the Kherson region Vladimir Saldo announced his intention to restore the dam of the Kakhovsky reservoir. The dam played a crucial role in the water balance and irrigation of the arid steppes of southern Ukraine and Northern Crimea and in the supply of fresh water to the Crimean Peninsula.

It was breached on June 6 of this year. As a result, dozens of people, thousands of domestic and wild animals were killed, many villages and small towns along the Dnieper River were destroyed, and in addition, huge damage was caused to the natural resources of the southern regions of Ukraine and the Black Sea.
