Japan has banned the export of cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters to Russia

Yasutoshi Nishimura, head of the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan, announced the introduction of new anti-Russian restrictions as part of the next sanctions package. The country's authorities decided to ban the export of cars to Russia, which have an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters. The solution also applies to hybrid cars and truck tires.

The restrictions will come into force on August 9. Japan plans to work closely with the international community and the G7 countries to strictly comply with the sanctions imposed against the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the well-known newspaper «Iomiuri» reported on the intention of the Japanese government to tighten export controls on passenger cars against Russia, including by banning the supply of cars with an engine capacity of more than 1.9 liters to the Russian Federation. Now this decision has been officially confirmed by Yasutoshi Nishimura.

Last year, «run-through» cars became the main commodity of Japanese exports to Russia. They accounted for 26% of the total exports of the corresponding goods from Japan. Then in About 200 thousand used cars with a total value of about 250 billion yen ($1.8 billion) were sent to Russia. Now exports will be limited only to small cars, and its volume in monetary terms will decrease to about 100 billion yen ($720 million).
