The army received the latest "Penicillin" for reconnaissance

The Russian army recently was armed with the latest artillery reconnaissance complexes "Penicillin", which are capable of calculating the coordinates of an enemy gun group in five seconds. The first batch was handed over at the end of 2020.

“In December 2020, in accordance with the signed contract, the first batch was handed over to the customer”, - Vyacheslav Mikheyev, CEO of the Vega concern, part of the Rostec corporation, told RIA Novosti.

"Penicillin" is intended for reconnaissance of firing positions of cannon and rocket artillery. In addition, it is used for reconnaissance of anti-aircraft and tactical missile positions.

The complex is capable of recording acoustic and thermal signals from shots and explosions, it gives out the exact coordinates of the enemy's gun, after which these data are entered on the map.

Vega concern clarified that Penicillin works effectively at any time of the day. The temperature allowed for its operation has a range from minus 40 to plus 50 degrees. The time for obtaining the coordinates of a single chain that is firing does not exceed five seconds.

The new complex was developed by the Vega Research Institute, which is part of the Vega.

It is noted that, unlike most similar systems, "Penicillin" detects enemy artillery not using radar, but thanks to a new principle of combining thermal and sound reconnaissance. Therefore, its electronic suppression is impossible.

Also, the system does not unmask itself by radiation from a radar station. However, this does not affect the high accuracy of "Penicillin".

The complex is placed on the KamAZ chassis, and the reconnaissance optoelectronic model of the system is mounted on a lifting mast.

Earlier it was indicated that the newest complex is capable of destroying American artillery within a radius of 25 km. This was reported by experts from the National Interest.
