From 1986 to 1991 he was the soloist of the group "Tender May" - at this time the hits of the group "White Roses", "Gray Night", "Summer" and others were created. According to media reports, before his death, Yuri Shatunov was relaxing with friends. In the morning the company was going fishing.

The artist was drinking beer with his comrades, eating crayfish when he became ill and complained of pain in his heart. Since there were no medicines in the house, friends drove Shatunov by car to the nearest clinic, where they tried to bring him to his senses, but then they called an ambulance. In the carriage, Shatunov's heart stopped, but he was restarted. The singer was taken to the clinic, where he died of a massive heart attack.

The responses to the death of the soloist of the most popular Russian pop group from the time of Perestroika turned out to be the most sympathetic - Shatunov was loved.

Journalist Vasily Alenin called him "the sonorous voice of the collapse of the Soviet empire":

And even in modern times, quite adult aunts and uncles listened. And not just because of nostalgia. Music critic Maxim Kononenko called Shatunov "not a mean, honest" person:

“In the program “Vzglyad”, the groups “Kino” and “Tender May” were placed side by side. And it freaked me out terribly. I was 17 years old, "Kino" was the coolest, and then some stupid pop music, worse than "Mirage".

Over time, I realized that the first album of "Tender May" was very cool exactly as music. Sergey Kuznetsov (in the video at the piano) wrote completely non-trivial songs. Next to which "Mirage" or, say, "Forum" (pop samples of that time) were complete stupidity, built on the same harmony. And okay there "White Roses" - but "Gray Night" is just a very, very good song.

Then Razin came and ruined everything. Shatunov is gone. Then he resurrected from non-existence and swept through Russia quite well, including with new songs.

In general, I feel sorry for him. The man was not mean. Honest.
