Director Nikita Mikhalkov (pictured) took the initiative to create his own analogue of the Oscar. He proposed to establish the Eurasian Film Academy and establish its award. In his opinion, this is necessary to preserve cultural and moral values, which are subject to powerful attacks from Western countries.

“We must save the most precious thing that we have, based on the cultural and moral traditions that unite us,” Mikhalkov said ( TASS quote ).

In his opinion, only the "Eurasian civilization" is capable of protecting cultural and moral values. Mikhalkov noted that because of the attack of Western civilizations, art began to be called something that "is not art." The creation of the Eurasian Film Academy will become the development of the Eurasian space and the mechanism of "self-defense of the essence of Eurasianism."

“This should be an expensive prize that should be fought for,” the director said during the first Eurasian Economic Forum in Bishkek.

The relevance of this proposal is explained by the exclusion of Russian films from the list of contenders for the European Film Award 2022 from the European Film Academy. Also, due to the events in Ukraine, the Cannes Film Festival announced a refusal to receive the Russian delegation and all those who are somehow connected with the Russian government.
