Despite the sharp increase in cash turnover in the country, Russian banks are turning off ATMs en masse. In the third quarter of the year, this number decreased by 3.8 thousand devices, and in the period from January to October - by 8.7 thousand units. The number of ATMs in the country has reached the level of 2012.

It is reported by CNews, referring to the statistics of the Central Bank. The rate of contraction of the banking network is growing rapidly. “For three quarters of this year, banks have disconnected 3.5 times more devices than in the entire last year (2.5 thousand)”, - reports Finanz.

According to the cited statistics, the downward trend is on the rise: in the first quarter 1992 ATMs were disconnected, in the second - 2858 devices, in the third - 3826 units.

As of October, there are 763 people per ATM. In total, 192.3 thousand ATMs operate in Russia - this is at least 7 years.

“Those times when you come to a shopping mall, and there are five or six ATMs from different banks, they will become a thing of the past”, - Mikhail Berner, head of the Russian office of Visa, said in the summer.

According to the Strategy for the Development of the National Payment System for 2021-2023, the Central Bank is striving to increase the share of non-cash payments to 75%. Cash circulation is difficult to control and is often used in shady transactions.

According to the results of a study by the RGS Bank this summer, it was found that every second Russian refused to use ATMs.
