The structure of spending by residents of Russia in the past New Year holidays has changed significantly compared to spending in previous years. At the height of the pandemic, Russians sharply reduced purchases of air tickets and tours abroad, but began to travel significantly more around the country.

Sberbank and VTB released information on their clients' expenses during the New Year holidays.

"According to SberIndex, from 4 to 10 January this year, compared to the previous year, the population's expenses for the purchase of air tickets were 77% lower, for hotels - by 81.4%, for purchases in duty free - by 87.1%", - reports Kommersant.

While payments for travel agency services fell by almost 40%, residents of the country began to spend significantly more money on the purchase of car fuel and payment for car services: the volume of travel by personal transport across the country increased.

According to VTB, for the period from January 1 to January 8, the expenses of Russians on travel agency services decreased by 30% - to 457 million rubles, but increased the cost of transport by 22% and by 15% - on hotels. Spending of Russians in the cities of the Golden Ring especially increased, where catering revenue increased by 42% compared to last year, alcohol market turnover - by 32%, and spending on entertainment and sports - by 10%. The residents of the country showed especially great interest in local ski resorts, which managed to earn 13% more than last year.

In the past holidays, the activity of visitors to stores in Moscow and St. Petersburg fell by 25% compared to last year. As a result, the owners of Moscow retail stores and catering outlets missed about 15% of their revenue.
