Personal experience: how Sberbank collects interest and penalties from loans of the deceased people

Personal experience: how Sberbank collects interest and penalties from loans of the deceased people

Relatives of deceased people who were debtors of Sberbank have to pay interest on the amount of the debt, because they do not have the right to pay it right away.

Almost two years ago, the well-known Kemerovo journalist Foma Neverov (Roman Kupriyanov), editor of the online magazine "Abazhur", told in his publication an entertaining story about his relationship with Sberbank. In short, the crux of the matter was that after the death of the journalist's cousin, there was an unclosed credit card. Instead of taking her son, Neverov went to Sberbank to find out how much money the deceased sister owed, how to get this money back, how to draw up a payment schedule. And this is what happened then:

“We were chased for more than two weeks. Bank employees do not know whether it is impossible to disclose the banking secrets of the deceased until the legal heirs appear, that is, six months later.

As a result, we have achieved a loss of nerves and promises that we will not have any interest, no fines, or penalties. And they also assured that the bank's system does not allow to pay off the loan at that moment.

Yeah, right now.

Firstly, a month or two after the death of our sister, we found a SIM card to which the Sberbank-online was tied, and easily checked the balance (the bank assured us that this was impossible after the death of a person). There were about 52 thousand..."

Two years have passed, and now Sberbank himself appeared to his relatives with a claim, and immediately sent to the court:

“And there are no longer 52 thousand, but more than 80. And interest to you, and penalties with fines. And if we were allowed to pay then, in January 2019, it would have cost 52 thousand.

Conclusion: the bank benefits from the death of a client. He receives interest for six months in advance automatically. The client, perhaps, would pay off his loan the next day, but... wait six months and listen to incompetent employees.

The department explained to us that no fines and penalties were charged, but only interest. With what, excuse me, fright?

Sber generally loves to mess with the money of the dead. Several years ago, an employee of this bank withdrew 200 thousand from the account of someone else's deceased person in Kiselevsk, and later became a big boss. And the operator was punished for the joint, who carried out his order. This is in the criminal case, and the criminal case is now in front of me...

PS - sometimes, after publications in social networks or the media, the bank shakes itself up and even tries to get into the situation. It’s not clear why stories should be driven to reputation losses.

PPS - “Pay and don't bother” advice is good, but not accepted. The nephew just got married and gave birth to my grand-nephew Pashka, there really is no work, there is no money either, so that there is no, their minus. Sberbank did not want to listen to these arguments.

The resume that the journalist made back in 2019 about this story can and should be repeated now:

“Sberbank imposes a tax on every deceased person. You owed, for example, one hundred thousand - your heirs are obliged to pay this hundred in six months, plus about ten percent. It is impossible to pay earlier in order to evade the bribe - you will not be told either the amount of the debt or the amount of the bribe. Unless, of course, at the cost of titanic efforts you will not get to Sberbank. Care". There, you will also be told only the payment schedule, taking into account the interest, - the usurer will not miss his, he will take from each deceased..."
