In the context of a decrease in passenger traffic due to the pandemic, the state allocated subsidies to support domestic airports and organizations that are in the same group with them, which will amount to 10.9 billion rubles.

The order was signed by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, TASS reports citing the press service of the Cabinet.

As explained in the press service of the government, funds are allocated from the Reserve Fund of the government on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The Federal Air Transport Agency will control their intended use.

The allocated money can be used to pay salaries to airport employees, with the exception of senior executives and boards of directors.

In addition, subsidies are allowed to be used to pay insurance premiums, as well as the maintenance, repair and operation of buildings, equipment and vehicles.

As Viktor Gorbachev, general director of the Airport Airport Association, warned earlier, if all state support goes to large airports, small regional air harbors will simply close.

On March 27, the Russian government instructed the Federal Air Transport Agency to completely stop regular and charter flights with all countries, with the exception of flights delivering Russian citizens to their homeland. Even then, Victor Gorbachev tentatively estimated the possible losses of the aviation industry in the amount of up to 250 billion rubles.

“The money allocated by the state should be given to support regional airports and local airlines, which suffered the most from the pandemic and which simply cannot withstand such a decline in traffic. We have airports that are part of holdings and associations, they belong to the oligarchs, let them support their enterprises themselves. If all the money goes to Sheremetyevo, Vnukovo, Pulkovo, Novosibirsk, Yekaterinburg, the rest will not get anything. Airports will simply close, there is practically no movement there. 10 billion is a penny, because the enterprises are already lose about 100 billion, "Viktor Gorbachev told Sputnik Radio earlier.
