A prisoner died in a fire in a colony of the Novgorod region

“Investigators have gone to the scene. Previously, it caught fire in the punishment cell, mattresses caught fire. A check is in progress", - the department told Novaya Gazeta.

As a result of the fire, one prisoner died. Four convicts were hospitalized.

According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the fire was extinguished in an hour. Rescuers evacuated 20 prisoners who were in the punishment cell. An investigation is underway.

Male correctional colony No. 4 in the Novgorod region has been operating since the 60s. On its territory there is a mill, a sewing workshop, furniture production and deep wood processing enterprises.

In September, a massive fire was reported in the Tangerang prison, located in the Banten province of Indonesia. According to official information, 46 people were killed and 77 people were injured.
