As a result of an international special operation, police in Colombia detained a Russian, one of the leaders of a group of drug smugglers that supplied illegal substances from South America to Russia.

The alleged leader of a drug cartel was caught in the city of Medellin, Republic of Colombia.

“The employees of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, together with colleagues from the NCB of Interpol of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the UMS of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, with the assistance of foreign partners, held events within the framework of Operation Kursk Bulge,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation reports.

The police believe that the Russian has established a channel for the supply of large consignments of Colombian drugs to Russia through the territory of Spain. Now the police are studying the possible connections of the Russian with the Colombian drug cartels.

The detention of the drug lord abroad was preceded by a series of arrests of his accomplices in Russia. Policemen from St. Petersburg, Kursk and Belgorod regions participated in their capture. In total, six suspects were detained in Russia and are now arrested.

They carried out 18 searches, during which more than 130 kg of drugs were seized, including cocaine, MDMA, LSD, hashish and hash oil. Having identified the connections of the suspects, the police put their three accomplices on the international wanted list. One of them, thanks to the help of foreign colleagues, was detained in Colombia.

As noted by the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Irina Volk, now the issue of his extradition to Russia is being resolved.
