A major fire continues in the building of the VKS Research Institute in Tver. The fire area has already reached 1.5 thousand square meters.

According to Interfax, citing an informed source, the fire was initially recorded on an area of 1,000 square meters, then the fire covered one and a half times the area.

“The aviation of the Ministry of Emergency Situations was involved in the elimination of the fire”, - the news agency said in a statement.

The fire at the Research Institute of the Aerospace Defense Troops became known on the morning of April 21.

According to rescuers, the fire broke out in a room on the second floor of the administrative building. The fire was assigned the third elevated rank, the employees of the Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense were evacuated.

At the moment, there was information about the death of two people. The number of wounded exceeded 30 people. The vast area was covered in smoke. As NTV notes with reference to eyewitnesses, in order to escape, people in a panic jumped right out of the windows of the burning building.

Now the roof of the Research Institute of the Ministry of Defense has already partially collapsed.

14 ambulances arrived at the scene. The cause of the fire remains to be determined by experts.

According to preliminary data, the emergency operation of the power grid became the cause of the fire, since the building and wiring are old.

Residential buildings are located near the burning scientific research institute. Rospotrebnadzor experts measure air quality. So far, there is no data on the dangerous excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances.
