Rospotrebnadzor: half of St. Petersburg residents are infected with coronavirus
Almost half of St. Petersburg residents have already become infected with the new coronavirus, said Elizaveta Skorynina, the spokeswoman for the Rospotrebnadzor department for the northern capital. According to her, the majority of St. Petersburg patients are asymptomatic.
Skorynina believes that the most effective way to halt the development of the epidemic in the country is to remain on self-isolation. Earlier, doctors proposed to extend it until the end of the May holidays . Skorynina also noted that at the moment it is impossible to reliably establish how clinics infect a new virus. “It is possible to bring the disease to medical facilities both by doctors and patients. A large number of drifts of a new disease to medical facilities occur precisely because the doctors who returned from abroad did not observe the regime of self-isolation, ”Interfax writes with reference to Skorynina’s words. According to her, some doctors became carriers of the disease from one place of work to another. To prevent such cases of the spread of the disease in medical institutions, a decree was issued by the chief medical officer forbidding medical staff to combine several positions in different hospitals during this period, they should only work at their main job.
In St. Petersburg, several employees of medical facilities have already died from coronavirus today. A new disease was confirmed in about 50 physicians.
Since the outbreak of the pandemic, over 3.2 thousand people in St. Petersburg have been infected with the coronavirus. Only in the last day the number of cases increased by 161 people. Another 27 patients died from complications from a new disease. The region is in third place after Moscow and the Moscow region in terms of the number of people infected with a new disease. Most of those admitted to polyclinics carry the disease without symptoms.
To date, the number of patients with coronavirus in Russia has exceeded the number of cases in China, where the spread of the pandemic began in the world. About 87.1 thousand cases of infection have already been confirmed in Russia, 795 people have died from complications. About 7.3 thousand patients have been able to recover today.
