France began to form a tribunal over Russia

The French Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced the start of joint work with European and Ukrainian partners to create a special international tribunal to investigate Russia's actions in Ukraine.

Paris supports the investigations of the Ukrainian justice authorities and the International Criminal Court in The Hague to bring the perpetrators to justice. Back in October, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna assured that Paris did not support the idea of creating such a tribunal.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe demanded the creation of a special international criminal tribunal for Ukraine. Moreover, this violated the principle of impartiality of the trial - PACE designated Moscow as guilty even before the creation of an instance and ignored previous signals about war crimes of the Kiev regime in the territory of Donbass.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has previously demanded that the world community "hold Russia accountable" because, in his opinion, international legal instruments "are not enough for justice". He insisted on the creation of a "special tribunal" and stated that the government of the republic "makes every effort" to achieve its goal. He insisted that the process over Moscow was led by Britain.

In July, the head of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Alexander Bastrykin, called the creation of a tribunal for crimes in Ukraine under the auspices of the UN extremely doubtful. It is necessary to involve Russian partners in the CIS, CSTO, BRICS and SCO, as well as Bolivia, Iran and Syria, which take a neutral position, in this work. The department opened more than 1.3 thousand criminal cases on the events in Ukraine.
