The US State Department named the conditions under which Russia will be able to avoid new US sanctions. The threat of their introduction hung over the country after the poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny.

The US offers Russia to declare and destroy all chemical weapons that it has. At the same time, Russia must do this under international supervision. If this is done, America will not impose new sanctions against Russia, writes RBC.

It's worth reminding that Russia officially reported back in 2017 on the elimination of chemical weapons on its territory. At the same time, the American State Department believes that the country is being cunning. In fact, Moscow is pursuing an undeclared program for the development of chemical weapons, and to date has considerable stockpiles of toxic substances. In particular, the State Department recalled a case three years ago with the poisoning by Novichok of former GRU Colonel Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury. Then sanctions were imposed on Russia. In August last year, Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny was hospitalized with symptoms of poisoning. German doctors found the forbidden poison "Novichok" in his body. The presence of the poison was also confirmed by three independent European laboratories. However, in Russia, the poisoning of Navalny is denied. Russian doctors did not find a banned substance policy in the body. According to the doctors, it became bad for him because his pancreatitis worsened.

On March 2, the United States imposed the first package of sanctions against Russia in the Navalny case. They touched upon the tightening of the export of dual-use goods and technologies. The second package of sanctions, which is planned to be imposed on Russia, is likely to affect American investors, who will no longer be able to invest in Russian sovereign debt. In addition, a ban will be introduced on the import of Russian oil and its products into the United States, as well as restrictions on air travel for Russian airlines (we are talking about Aeroflot).

Earlier, the EU also extended sanctions against Russia. The Union did not impose sanctions on Russian companies and oligarchs, but limited itself to imposing sanctions on Prosecutor General Igor Krasnov, Head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin, Head of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov, and Head of the Federal Penitentiary Service Alexander Kalashnikov.
