Russian Ambassador Oleg Stepanov summoned to the Canadian Foreign Ministry due to statements about the Holodomor

Director General of the Department for European Affairs Michael Bonser summoned Stepanov to "make a demarche, convey the Canadian position of disagreement with the press release on the Holodomor," the ambassador specified. According to TASS, the diplomat also conveyed to Bonser Moscow's position on the issue. Stepanov stressed that there is a total inhuman denial of historical facts. The parties parted "on disagreement on this plot".

In 2006, Ukraine recognized the massive famine of the 1930s as genocide. Russia does not agree with this decision. On December 1, the deputies of the German Bundestag recognized the Holodomor in Ukraine as a genocide, deliberately organized and supported. The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, called the resolution an absurdity that distorts historical facts. She recalled that the tragedy of the 1930s affected not only Ukraine, but also many other regions and peoples of the Soviet Union.
