Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the situation around Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny, who is being treated in this country, should not be connected with the completion of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline, but now the position has been adjusted.

"The Chancellor is of the opinion that nothing can be ruled out from the very beginning", - Interfax quotes the words of the official representative of the German government Steffen Seibert. Although he nevertheless stressed that it is too early to tie the two situations together, a common position within the European Union should be formulated on this topic. Earlier, Angela Merkel said that the gas pipeline must be completed.

Let us remind you that last Wednesday Angela Merkel said that traces of poisoning with the Novichok group's warfare agent were found in Navalny's body. The politician himself became ill on August 20 on a plane flying from Tomsk to Moscow. The pilots urgently landed a plane in Omsk, Alexey Navalny spent two days in a hospital in this city, then he was taken to the Berlin clinic Charite. He still hasn't regained consciousness.

The Novichok chemical warfare agent first became widely known after the poisoning of ex-GRU officer Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia in the UK in March 2018. The British authorities blamed Russia for the assassination attempt on the Skripals, but Russia denies these accusations. Angela Merkel also called on the Russian government to provide explanations on the situation with Alexey Navalny. In her opinion, he was the victim of a crime.

Press Secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov confirmed Russia's readiness for comprehensive cooperation with Germany to clarify the situation around Alexei Navalny, but stressed that Germany had not yet given answers to the previously sent official inquiries, and in Russia no toxic substances were found in the body of Alexey Navalny...

Two days ago, German experts also identified traces of the poison on the bottle that Alexey Navalny had with him during his trip to the regions of Russia.
