“I know there are convicted US citizens who are in jail. But if we compare with the number of Russians who are in American prisons, then these figures are incomparable”, - Putin said.
Moreover, the journalist was interested in the fate of two prisoners - Paul Whelan, convicted in Russia for espionage (received 16 years in prison) and Trevor Reed. The Russian president did not specify whether they would be included in the exchange list, but called Reed a "bully" who "got drunk on vodka and started a fight" - he is serving a sentence (9 years in prison) for attacking Russian police officers. By the way, the question of the fate of the prisoners will be raised at a meeting between Putin and US President Joe Biden on June 16.
It's worth reminding that in the United States, among others, businessman Viktor Bout (for illegal arms deals and for financing terrorism) and pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko (for drug smuggling) are serving sentences.
