The head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen called the poisoning of the Russian opposition politician Alexey Navalny "a typical manifestation of Russia's behavior on the world stage".

According to the head of the European Commission, the practice of attacks on unwanted citizens has already become a tradition in Russia. Ursula von der Leyen is convinced that the traditions of political behavior of the current Russian leadership, including the elimination of ideological competitors and interference in elections in other countries, will not change "no gas pipeline".

We are talking about the construction of the Nord Stream-2 trunk line, which should pass through Scandinavia and provide Russian gas to European consumers. After the poisoning of Navalny, calls in Europe intensified to abandon further participation in the gas project, which is being implemented by the Russian company Gazprom.

“To those who advocate closer relations with Russia, I want to say that the poisoning of Alexey Navalny with a chemical is not a one-time case”, - Interfax quotes Ursula von der Leyen.

According to Kommersant, the EU representatives are perplexed by Russia's behavior in relations with Georgia and Ukraine. In the same row is the story of the poisoning of Sergey Skripal and his daughter Yulia in Salisbury, to neutralize which the attackers also used Novichok poison.

“And this trend is not changing, and no gas pipeline will change it”, - said the head of the European Commission.

Alexei Navalny fell into a coma on August 20. Russian doctors said that metabolic disorders were the reason for the sharp deterioration in the politician's health. However, their German colleagues, based on the results of Navalny's examination, concluded that the oppositionist had been poisoned with a Novichok-type military nerve agent.

The EU called on the Russian leadership to investigate the attempt on Navalny's life. However, the Russian leadership is in every possible way delaying the inspection. A criminal case on the fact of poisoning the politician in Russia has not yet been initiated.
